Football system betting
Football system betting – doubles, trebles and full cover
Football system betting lets you combine several matches and more than one possible outcome in the same coupon or bet slip.
In a standard H/D/A market, H means a home win, D means a draw and A means an away win. One match can have one selected outcome, two-outcome cover or full three-outcome cover.
Each added outcome increases the number of combinations. If the stake per combination stays the same, the total stake also increases. System betting is therefore about both match selection and keeping control of cover, combinations, stake and potential returns.
In brief
One outcome
Select H, D or A for the match. The match then contributes one combination.
Two-outcome cover
Two of the three possible H/D/A outcomes are selected. This doubles the combinations contributed by the match compared with one outcome.
Full cover
H, D and A are selected. The match contributes three possible outcomes.
What is a system bet or coupon?
A system bet consists of several combinations. Each combination represents one specific set of selected H, D and A outcomes.
If every match has only one selected outcome, there is only one combination. When a match is covered with two or three outcomes, the system must include more combinations. This is the basic principle behind system betting.
One outcome, two-outcome cover and full cover
One selected outcome: You select only H, D or A. The match contributes one possible outcome to the system.
Two-outcome cover: You select two of the three possible outcomes, such as H/D, H/A or D/A. This doubles the number of combinations contributed by that match compared with one selected outcome.
Full three-outcome cover: You select H/D/A. All three match outcomes are covered, so that match contributes three possibilities to the system.
How is the number of combinations calculated?
The number of combinations is found by multiplying the number of selected outcomes for every match.
Example:
- Match 1: H
- Match 2: H/D
- Match 3: H/D/A
1 × 2 × 3 = 6 combinations
Add another two-outcome cover and the calculation becomes 1 × 2 × 3 × 2 = 12 combinations. This is why a system can grow quickly when more matches are covered.
How does cover affect the stake?
Total stake depends on the number of combinations and the stake per combination.
12 combinations × 10 kroner = 120 kroner total stake.
If the system grows to 24 combinations with the same stake per combination, 24 × 10 kroner = 240 kroner. Cover creates more combinations, but there is no free cover when the stake per combination is unchanged.
Where should you use cover?
There is no certain answer. One common approach is to distinguish between matches where the assessment points clearly in one direction and matches with greater uncertainty.
Analysis can support the decision about which matches may stand with one outcome and which could use two-outcome or full three-outcome cover. It cannot know the result in advance, and more cover does not automatically make a system economically better.
Analysis and the final cover selection are different
Football odds analysis and cover are separate parts of the workflow. Analysis structures available information about a match. Cover determines how many outcomes the user chooses to include in the coupon.
An analysis may point towards A, while the user selects D/A because the match is considered uncertain. The analysis direction is therefore not necessarily identical to the final system selection. The user decides the system.
From football odds analysis to a system bet
A structured workflow can be:
- Compare odds.
- Review available match data.
- Assess the H/D/A direction and uncertainty.
- Choose which matches will have one selected outcome.
- Choose which matches will be covered.
- Check the number of combinations.
- Calculate the total stake.
- Check the coupon after the matches have finished.
How Odds Companion PRO supports system betting
Odds Companion PRO has a system builder where the user can work with H, D and A for the matches included in the system. Depending on the assessment, matches can be set up with one or more outcomes.
The system builder brings together:
- H/D/A selections
- two-outcome and full three-outcome cover
- system combinations
- stake
- potential payout
- analysis as decision support
The user still decides which matches and outcomes to include.
Stake and potential returns
When a system coupon contains several combinations, it is useful to view the total stake alongside the possible returns.
Different combinations can have different combined odds because they contain different H/D/A selections. Potential payout may therefore vary between combinations.
A system tool can make it easier to review total stake, stake per combination, the combinations included and potential returns based on the selected odds. A potential payout is not an expected or guaranteed payout.
Is more cover always better?
No. More cover includes more possible match results, but it also increases the number of combinations and normally the total stake.
Full cover can protect against an incorrect assessment in one match, but several fully covered matches can make the system grow quickly. System building is a balance between coverage, uncertainty, combinations and stake. No system structure guarantees a win or a profit.
Checking the coupon after the matches
The workflow does not necessarily end when the coupon has been built. After the matches are finished, the results can be compared with the original combinations.
This makes it possible to check which combinations were correct, which were not, and how the system actually developed. History can also make it easier to revisit earlier coupons and assessments.
System betting as a structured workflow
System betting can become complex when many matches and covering choices are combined. A tool can reduce the manual work needed to keep track of the combinations.
Odds Companion PRO brings odds, analysis, system building, stake calculation, coupons and result checking into the same workflow. The purpose is not to choose bets for the user, but to make the information and the system easier to review.
Frequently asked questions about system betting
What is two-outcome cover?
Two-outcome cover means selecting two of the three possible H/D/A outcomes for the same match, such as H/D or D/A. It doubles the number of combinations contributed by that match compared with one selected outcome.
What is full three-outcome cover?
Full three-outcome cover includes H, D and A for the same match. The match therefore contributes three possible outcomes to the system.
How are the combinations in a system calculated?
The number of combinations is calculated by multiplying the number of selected outcomes for each match. One outcome × two outcomes × three outcomes gives six combinations, for example.
Does more cover increase the chance of a profit?
More cover includes more possible match results, but it also increases the number of combinations and normally the stake. Cover can reduce the risk of losing the coupon because of one particular match, but it does not guarantee a win or a profit.
